Desire to learn steel guitar

Post by Kyle Stewart »

Hello all. I hope I am putting this in the right section haha. I am from Saskatoon SK, Canada and brand new to all of this.I have mostly just looked into prices and possible lessons (unfortunately seem very hard to find) and was curious if anyone on here was around that area and would be willing to help offer lessons or guidance. Thanks for your time and any input.

There are lots of free lessons on the internet. Look at the beginner's page on this forum. Some people teach by skype. It is best to find a local teacher in your area. There is nothing like one on one personal instruction to be sure you get started right, know how to tune your instrument, and what things to practice as you develop. If have have some previous experience with music that will help. Good luck in your quest...

Rather than jump directly into the deep end, you might want to consider getting an inexpensive lap steel to see how you like it. It will teach you how to use the bar, intonation, using finger picks and is a lot cheaper than trying to get a pedal steel right away

Do you already play an instrument?
Do you have knowledge of how chords are used in a song?

Most steel guitar players have a good knowledge of music, And play other instruments, Before starting on their steel guitar journey.

Good Luck, And have a great journey, If you choose to play a Pedal Steel Guitar.

Maybe you can get lucky and score a local deal on a cool old Linkon pedal steel.
