Clarinet. -Steel hybrid
I'm torn between - "Hay, that's really cool!" and "Hey! That's OUR territory, Bud! Stay in your lane."

The instrument Stevie Wonder exploited was the Clavinet, which I think was a Hohner trademark.
A clarinet is a wind instrument.
I don't like the thing in the video. A lot of hard work has gone into something pretty limited.

Every so often, we speculate on a PSG design that uses digital, LED light, or some kind of mechanical transducer in place of the levers and pedals, like this clavinet. No rods, no changer, no pulling strings. All electric. Someday, it will be a reality.

About 15 years ago I had an idea for a pedal steel using some sort of stepped electric motor to move the changers. Later I read someone else had suggested solenoids, which would be lighter. It is possible.Walter Webb wrote: 29 Nov 2025 10:12 am Every so often, we speculate on a PSG design that uses digital, LED light, or some kind of mechanical transducer in place of the levers and pedals, like this clavinet.
